“I started getting these calls to work at fitness centers teaching and personal training, and a co-worker who was a student at Wayne State told me that the fitness center was hiring.” Carole Gist said. “I found an administrative job at the Detroit Institute of Arts. At least I could come across the street and teach a class at lunch or at 7 am and that’s pretty much how it started.”

The First Black Miss USA now helps people to get in shape and also runs fitness bootcamps for teens and brides to be!

Ironically Carole Gist was teased in her youth for her height, appearance and shape.  You know she was probably thinking, “Look at me Now!” when she won Miss USA!  However, Carole Gist has always been known to be extremely humble.

“Im very grateful for that one in lifetime, never to be repeated historic moment in my life! I’m very proud to be the first from the state of Michigan and the first African American to win Miss USA!”

We are excited here to report to you that Carole Gist, the First Black Miss USA winner, is still making strides for women of Color!
